About this property
Hosted by Dark Sky Retreat
A well presented 2 bedroom property on the edge of the Galloway Forest, a Dark Sky Park. This self-contained guest accomodation is an annex to our pretty stone cottage, 30 seconds walk from the River Cree. Guests can enjoy a private entrance, 2 bedrooms & their own private bathroom, kitchen/living room & garden. We are under 10 mins drive from Glen Trool, the 7 Stanes mountain bike trails, multiple wild swimming spots and renowned hiking routes.
The property is a self-contained annex to our cottage. All on one level (although there are 3 steps to access the front door), the property is bright and airy and well equipped. The 2 bedrooms are furnished with a king size and a double bed respectively, both with premium memory foam mattresses. In addition, the property also offers a private entrance & hallway, lounge, kitchenette (hob & microwave, but no oven), bathroom (with a hot and powerful shower) and enclosed garden with seating area. There is plenty of on site parking and locked bike storage is available in an outbuilding.
We have 10 acres of garden, meadow and riverbank for you to explore. The River Cree runs across our garden and the riverbank is perfect for picnics, fishing and even wild swimming for the brave! We are surrounded by glorious views of the Galloway Hills and zero light pollution makes for wonderful stargazing on clear evenings. The area was designated a Dark Sky park in 2009 and affords visitors amazing night time views.
We - myself, my partner Robb, our young daughter Elizabeth and 2 friendly dogs Rocket and Max and cats Jet and Wolf - live in the adjoining cottage. We are happy to chat or share tips for exploring the area, or give you total privacy, it's up to you.
For the evenings the annex has a television with a fire stick, offering Amazon Prime, Netflix, Now TV and Disney+ and a DVD player and lots of DVDs, there is also a selection of board games and books. Wi-Fi is available throughout the annex.
We welcome dogs, but we do have 2 of our own - so if your pooch is not great with others then please let us know in advance so we can keep ours out of the way. We also have 2 cats, chickens and peacocks, so please keep dogs on a lead when in communal areas.
We provide tea, coffee, oil, sugar, salt & pepper and cleaning products. The kitchen is well equipped with pots, pans, cutlery and crockery, but please note there is no oven - cooking is on the induction hob, in the microwave or in the air fryer.
Amenities are available in nearby Barrhill (5 miles) where you will find a village shop open till lunchtime and Newton Stewart (13 miles) a substantial town where you will find good pubs, shops, supermarkets and all major amenities. The town of Girvan (17 miles) is also useful for picking up supplies.
We are located right on the edge of the Galloway Forest, known for its rolling hills, tranquil lochs, abundance of wildlife and fantastic mountain biking and walking trails. There are also multiple wild swimming spots in the local area. We are less than 10 mins drive from Loch Trool and the excellent 7 Stanes (Glentrool) mountain bike trails and 15 mins from the RSPB Wood of Cree nature reserve.
Your accomodation is a self contained annex to our stone cottage. You will have your own front door, hallway, 2 bedrooms, bathroom and living/kitchen room - with cooking facilities (hob & microwave, no oven) and washing machine. We provide tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, oil and cleaning products. There is a microwave, hob, air fryer, toaster and kettle and a full range of pans, utensils, cutlery and crockery. There is also direct access to the forest and a Loch less than 30 mins walk away, plus many more within 10mins drive.
We live in the cottage next door - we are available if you need us and happy to share tips and recommendations, but we can also give you total privacy as you prefer. We have 2 very friendly dogs that live on site - they are not able to access the guest areas, including the enclosed guest garden, but if you plan to enjoy our grounds and would prefer they keep their distance then please let us know and we will ensure they don't bother you. We have rivers, ponds and streams on our land - please keep children under close supervision when outside the guest areas.
Perfect, beautiful isolation. We are on the edge of the Galloway Forest, Britain's first Dark Sky Park. We have panoramic views of the Galloway Hills, the River Cree runs across our land and we are within minutes drive of the Forest Park's most stunning attractions.
We have plenty of free parking on site. The area is famed for its cycling trails and we also have bike storage. There is an hourly bus service between Newton Stewart and Girvan which stops outside our gate. Barrhill is an 8 minute drive away and has a mainline station, we are happy to collect guests from Barrhill by prior arrangement. Both Girvan and Newton Stewart have taxi services.
We are in a beautiful, isolated spot, however with that peacefulness comes variable mobile phone signal with some networks. We do have a fast fibre broadband connection that enables guests to stream TV programmes, make calls etc.
